An ex-military reploid that contracted a new strain of the Maverick Virus, a sickness that was once thought extinct thanks to the work of past scientists with the creation of the Mother Elf. R3-D caused a pretty good amount of damage before authorities showed up, wrangled him into submission and threw him into an isolation cell while they decided what would be done with him next. Typically, a Maverick would be executed as there was thought to be no way of saving them after being infected, but a certain Protocol Manager named C0DA thought otherwise, and had him placed in more comfortable conditions in order to work with the Maverick to save him.

Eventually, while his symptoms were improving and with a little more time C0DA may have been able to eradicate the virus entirely, the government organization eventually grew tired of these merely tiny steps in progress and pulled the plug, throwing R3-D into a jail cell to await execution... however, C0DA chose to break into the holding cells and run out with R3-D, making them both wanted escapees.

Thankfully, now far from Innerpeace, they live rather comfortably thanks to the work of underground doctors familiar with how to combat the virus. It was rather devestating to learn that the medication to supress its symptoms had been available through the correct channels for years, while the government pretended to care.
